Meet the crew of Tara Oceans, a 118-foot schooner visiting New York’s East River from February 5 to 11 at the Consulate General of France on Thursday, February 9 at 6:30PM.
Tara Oceans is a global scientific cruise inspired by Darwin’s legendary 1820 expedition of HMS Beagle. Tara’s team of international scientists and explorers have spent the last few years collecting and categorizing plankton (responsible for half the oxygen on the planet) in order to discover the ocean’s relationship to climate change.
In New York, Tara Oceans will be docking at Battery Park, North Cove Marina (arriving Sunday February 5, 4:00PM).
Tara Expeditions has been organizing missions aboard the research schooner Tara for the past 7 years. Its goal is to learn more about the impact of climate change on ecosystems. Tare Expeditions is a non-profit association based in France that provides samples and data to the scientific community worldwide. The Tara Expeditions project is affiliated to the United Nations Programme for the Environment. Thanks to the initiative of the French designer agnès b. and Etienne Bourgois, Tara has accomplished 6 successful expeditions – to Greenland, Antartica, Patagonia, southern Georgia, and the Artic. This mission is the 7th expedition.
