La Maison Française, centre culturel Français et francophone de New York University, se situe au Nord de Washington Square Park, à l’entrée de Washington Mews, très belle rue pavée et piétonne bordée de petites maisons du début du 19è siècle et classée monument historique.
Créée en 1957, La Maison Française de NYU a rapidement pris en charge d’apporter les courants intellectuels et culturels français pendant la période particulièrement dynamique de l’après-guerre. Cela fait maintenant plus de 50 ans que La Maison Française procure une tribune pour un échange intellectuel et culturel franco-américain, et qu’elle sert de catalyseur à des relations continues entre les Etats Unis et le monde francophone.
La Maison Française, qui est le centre culturel franco-américain le plus dynamique jamais trouvé sur un campus universitaire américain, est la face publique du Centre de Civilisation et de Culture Français de New York University. Elle offre un programme d’activités riche et varié, à la disposition de tous. Plusieurs fois par semaine, et des centaines de fois dans l’année, le général public, les membres de l’université mais aussi du gouvernement et du monde des affaires se retrouvent pour participer à un grand nombre de nos activités qui, pour la grande majorité, sont gratuites : lectures, conférences, expositions, films, concerts, théâtre, colloques, etc.
Afin de financer les frais de ses activités, La Maison Française est toujours à la recherche de toutes contributions et dons de la part de particuliers, de fondations ou de corporations intéressés à prendre part dans le développement des relations franco-américaines.

Just north of Washington Square, at the entrance to historic, cobblestoned Washington Mews, stands a New York landmark, La Maison Française, the French and Francophone cultural center of New York University.
Founded in 1957, La Maison Française of NYU quickly assumed the task of bringing French intellectual and cultural developments to the attention of the New York community during a particularly dynamic period in postwar French thought. For over fifty years, La Maison Française has provided a forum for French-American intellectual and cultural dialogue and has acted as a nerve center for the ongoing relationship between the United States and the French-speaking world.
La Maison Française, the most active center of French-American cultural and intellectual exchange to be found on any American campus, is the public face of the Center for French Civilization and Culture of New York University.
La Maison Française serves the university, business, government, and professional communities, as well as the general public, in the New York metropolitan area. It sponsors a rich and varied public program. Several times each week, and hundreds of times each year, audiences gather for a wide-range of activities, nearly all of which are free and open to the public – lectures, readings, conferences, symposia, art exhibits, film screenings, concerts, dramatic performances, and special events.
For support of its activities, La Maison Française of New York University seeks gifts and grants from individuals, foundations, and corporations which value its leadership contributions to French-American relations.
